THE CARE QUALITY COMMISSION RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN, LONDON UK
Rowe Films recently embarked on a fantastic project with the UK Care Quality Commission (CQC); crafting a video that captures the essence of an organisation dedicated to the highest standards of care.
The project was produced in partnership with Webrecruit Ltd, the Devon based online recruitment company that the CQC use to advertise their job vacancies. Webrecruit were looking for a professional video production company to assist them in delivering a successful video campaign, and chose Rowe Films for the job.
The Care Quality Commission, entrusted with the crucial responsibility of ensuring health and social care services in the UK meet fundamental standards of quality and safety, needed a quality recruitment and careers orientated video, to breathe life into their recruitment campaign. More specifically, the data and technology departments within the organisation were looking for talented people in the tech sector to come and join their team.
The challenge was clear: The CQC might not necessarily be the first organisation that springs to mind for those working in the technology industry. The CQC wanted to address this misconception by delivering a clear message - The CQC is an organisation that is heavily reliant on data and insight, and is currently making waves in terms of technical development. They needed talented people to help them develop the technology they are quite simply reliant upon to do their job effectively.
A Powerful Message: An Organisation With Real Purpose
We wanted the video to inform potential candidates about the critical role they play, as we felt that this would inspire them to join a mission of fairly unparalleled significance. From Rowe Films’ perspective, this was a key message and unique selling point the CQC have in their armoury, and an emotional hook that could, and should, be used in the video. After all, this is not just any data/tech job, but one with real purpose grounded in care and compassion for other human beings. Regardless of the specific role or professional capacity, anyone that works for this organisation is genuinely contributing to a much, much bigger picture. As humans, we all seek out purpose in life, and this was a powerful message we would look to employ in the video production.
Concept to Creation: The Rowe Films Approach
At Rowe Films, we don't just make videos. We craft visual narratives and tell stories that resonate with authenticity. The video production process began with an in-depth consultation period between video director Tommy Rowe, Webrecruit, and the Technology, Data & Insights Team at CQC. This involved several video calls and lots of emails to put together a comprehensive production plan. From the video producer’s perspective, these consultations allowed us to truly understand the core values of CQC, and the message they wished to convey. At the heart of every successful video production, there needs to be a deep understanding of what the video needs to achieve. This highly collaborative approach ensured that every element of the production, from the content to be included in the video and scripts, to the final edits and format of deliverables, would seamlessly align with both the Commission's specific targets and ambitions for the recruitment campaign itself, as well as their wider ethos and core values.
The Production: A Trip to The Big Smoke
Myself and my production assistant Alex travelled up to London from our base in Devon the night before the production day, to ensure we were on site as early as possible to have a good look at the CQC HQ and surroundings. The Commission are based in Stratford, in the heart of East London and on the edge of the former Olympic Park. The office space was contemporary and had plenty of large windows providing lots of natural light. We decided to make use of these windows to provide a source of lighting, and to use as a backdrop for the interviews. We captured a series of interviews with key personnel and directed them towards the core messages we needed to get across in the video. Having wrapped on the interviews, the final job on the production day was to capture plenty of ‘B Roll’ footage to use as cutaways in the video. We followed the team members around as they carried out duties around the office.
For the deliverables, we produced one long cut of the video, as well as a series of much shorter, highly targeted and optimised edits for use as engaging content on their social media channels. We are pleased to report that all involved were incredibly pleased with the results, and the video has since been put to very good use in the organisation’s recruitment campaigns.
