SOMEWHERE IN THE WESTCOUNTRY

CINEMATIC DOCUMENTARY IN COLLABORATION WITH PANASONIC LUMIX

LUMIX have gone and done it. They’ve released quite possibly my favourite camera of theirs to date - the S1 Mark II.

For this new product announcement, I managed to put together this short cinematic documentary featuring my good friend and professional fly fisherman, Lewis Hendrie.

Lewis and I were in the process of producing promotional content for the fishing brands that he works with, and our planned shoots just so happened to coincide with the release of the new LUMIX camera. Fantastic timing, and a great opportunity to put it through its paces in real world shooting environments. Two birds, one stone and all that!

As always, it’s a pleasure to be involved in these new camera marketing campaigns. But on this particular occasion, a massive thanks has to go to Barnaby at Panasonic LUMIX Europe, who personally rushed the camera to me overnight via courier, in order to get it to me in time for our shoots. Top man, thanks Barney!

Fish don’t live in ugly places
— Lewis Hendrie

Lewis has been fishing since he was 4 years old. Fast forward to today, and he’s one of the most renowned fly fishing guides in the world.

For some time, he’s wanted to put together a short film called ‘The Connection’, to spread the word about the therapeutic benefits of fishing, and more importantly, what simply being out in nature can do for the mind and soul.

Having considered this rather opportunistic short piece a bit of a proof of concept, we now intend to make the film happen in the coming weeks.

Lewis is fantastic in front of camera and his passion for his craft is abundantly clear for all to see. He also just so happens to be one of the nicest chaps you will ever meet and a good friend, so it’s been an a real treat to get out with him to see the wizard at work.

What a fantastic couple of days we had out and about, in and on the Westcountry’s rivers and lakes. We had mixed conditions to work with, from bright baking hot sunshine to thundery downpours, but it really didn’t matter. There truly is something very special about being out in that environment, whatever the weather.

As a Cornishman, I’m slightly ashamed to say I’ve never been massively into fishing myself. I’m very much an outdoors guy, and the more often I can get out in the wild the better, but personally I’ve never needed a rod as an excuse. But now having spent a couple of days out on the water with Lewis and his friend Will Thomas (another champion Fly Fisherman), I am definitely seeing it!

So here’s our short mini-documentary, filmed entirely on the brand new Panasonic LUMIX S1ii and paired up with the new 24-60mm f/2.8 zoom lens. There will be more on these new products to come, so watch this space. They are truly fantastic.

For now though, sit back and enjoy!
