Devon County Council - Agricultural Technology Grant Scheme Project
As a Devon based video production company, we were delighted to be commissioned by Devon County Council to produce promotional video content for their Agricultural Technology grant scheme. The scheme aims to support local farms and agriculture businesses to invest in technology that can help them to grow their businesses, improve efficiency, become more profitable, and more sustainable. The council were keen to bring Rowe Films on board to produce some video content to promote the scheme and wider project.
As a proud Westcountry lad myself, this project was particularly close to my heart. Coming from a Cornish family with farming roots that go as far back as you can see, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into running a successful farm or agricultural business. It was therefore an honour to work with Devon County Council on this project to showcase how the Agricultural Technology grant scheme is helping them to grow and thrive, as well as prepare them for a future that is in many ways uncertain.
It's exciting to see how these local businesses are embracing new innovations to make their operations more efficient and sustainable, while still maintaining a strong connection to the land and traditions of their communities. Something that is very important to me on a personal (and dare I say even spiritual) level.
When the council got in touch with us here at Rowe Films, we advised them of the value and benefits that come with using video and moving images specifically as a medium, to promote their project. We emphasised that video is a powerful tool for storytelling and can help to convey complex ideas and information in an engaging and accessible way. Video is able to do this in ways that other mediums simply cannot.
Video content can be distributed widely on social media platforms with impressive organic reach, making it an effective way to reach a wider audience and increase engagement with their target audience. It allows businesses and organisations to reach people they otherwise wouldn’t have, or couldn’t have. We also highlighted the ability of video content to evoke emotions and create a personal connection with viewers. This is particularly important when promoting initiatives like this one, with the agricultural industry being so very important to local people, and communities alike.
By using video as a promotional tool, Devon County Council is able to showcase the successes of the grant scheme and raise awareness of the benefits it provides to local businesses in the agricultural sector. We are proud to have been able to provide our expertise and support to the council in this way and believe that our collaboration has produced effective and compelling video content that showcases the impressive innovations happening right here in the Westcountry.
As soon as we were given the green light on this project, we set out to document how the grant funding has been used by the businesses and farms that have received it thus far, and to capture the real world benefits of investing in such technology. The council will be using this video content to promote the scheme to a wider audience, so it’s imperative that we truly captured both the technology itself, as well as the specific ways it has been utilised by the businesses.
On the first production day, we visited two local farms, to see firsthand how the grant money had been used to improve their businesses.
One of the farms we visited was a small dairy farm on the edge of Dartmoor, which has used the grant funding to invest in some pretty impressive milking technology. Milking robots! The new equipment has enabled the farm to substantially increase their operational efficiency, reducing the time and labour required to milk their cows. It’s good for the cows wellbeing too!
Another business we had the opportunity to document was a fungi farm that grows fungi for culinary and medicinal purposes. This is a rapidly growing industry, and Dart Valley Fungi are truly at the cutting edge. With the Council’s grant, they were able to develop technology that allows them to automate the incredibly precise environmental conditions needed to grow fungi in large quantities. The grant has funded the development and installation of specialised equipment, such as highly accurate climate control systems and automated monitoring sensors, to help them optimise their growing environment and increase yields significantly.
We were tasked with creating a range of video deliverables for this project.
The main deliverable of the project was a highlights video that showcases key elements from all the farms and businesses we visited. A well produced highlights video captures the essence of a project, and in this particular case, provides viewers with a solid overview of how the Council’s grant scheme has helped local businesses.
In addition to the highlights video, we also created individual case study videos for each business we visited. These videos provided a more in-depth look at each business, their specific challenges, and how they were able to overcome them with the support of the grant scheme. Each case study video highlighted the innovative techniques and technology that these businesses had implemented, specifically for their unique needs.
Through the video content that we have produced for the council, we have showcased the benefits of investing in agricultural technology and how it can help businesses to become more profitable. The video content is now being used by Devon County Council to promote their grant scheme, and it has been widely shared on social media and other online platforms. We are very pleased to hear that it has been well received all round.
Overall, this project was a great success for both the Council and Rowe Films, and we were honoured to work with them to promote such an important initiative. A very local one, at that. We hope that our video productions will help the council to inspire other local businesses to invest in technology and help them to grow their businesses, as well as the wider local economy.
We are delighted to announce that our work on this project has now led to an ongoing working relationship between Rowe Films and Devon County Council. We are pleased to be working with the local government to produce promotional videos for various initiatives, including further content on the Agri-Tech grant scheme. In the coming weeks, we look forward to visiting more local businesses, to document their progress and showcase the impact of the grant scheme on their operations.
We’re very proud to be part of this collaborative effort to highlight the positive impact such schemes have on our communities, as well as wider society, and we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead. We’re committed to delivering high quality content that showcases the achievements and successes of the businesses we work with.
Here is the short Highlights Video we produced for the council that they recently showcased at an agriculture event in Devon. We hope you like it!
