CINEMATIC WEDDING FILMS

MEGAN & LUKE | MARCH 2022

“Two years. 728 days later, to be exact”

That’s how long Meg & Luke’s special day was delayed by. Their original wedding date, 28th March 2020, was due to take place a matter of a few days before the world closed down for the first time.

At the time, I had actually filmed another wedding a few days beforehand, and there was already talk about what might happen, and how that couple might have been extremely lucky. Following a good week or two of uncertainty as to what would actually happen, I just couldn’t believe Meg & Luke’s bad luck when the call was finally made. They missed out by less than a week. I was in the process of preparing for their wedding shoot, when the news finally dropped.

The last two years have been incredibly challenging for so many people, that much is for sure.

The guys quickly decided that they would opt to move their day another two years ahead in time. With so many weddings being put on hold all at the same time, and with so much uncertainty about the future, available dates for all wedding suppliers were, well, in short supply.

So a two year postponement it was, and a hope for the best! This meant that a whopping 4 years would now come to pass, between their initial enquiry and our very first chat, and the big day actually taking place. Truly crazy times!

I am so, so very pleased for them both. Over the moon that they finally got the wedding day they hoped for. And the one they so very much deserved.

It was a stunning Spring day at the wonderful Rockbeare Manor. For those that might not know of it, it’s a beautiful Manor House nestled in the Devon countryside, with stunning grounds. The perfect location for a wedding.

The weather truly could not have been better. The sun shone all day long, and there wasn’t a breath of wind. Even a sunny day in March here in the UK can sometimes be chilly, but the temperature was just perfect. On the flip side, a sunny day in July or August can be a bit hot, sticky, and a little on the uncomfortable side. Well, for me anyway! This was just perfect. Warm enough for Meg & Luke’s guests to truly enjoy the beautiful grounds, and everything the venue has to offer, but cool enough to prevent me going into overheating mode as I sometimes do!

And then to top it all off, we were blessed with the most stunning golden hour and sunset in the evening, something that you always very much hope for as a wedding filmmaker and videographer. As I have filmed at Rockbeare Manor many times before, I knew that when the weather is on point there, the evenings are always truly glorious. The perfect location for a golden hour portrait shoot!

Overall, it was just an incredible day. With Megan’s side of the family coming from Scotland, and Luke’s from Northern England, it was an amazing mix of people. Plenty of banter, as you would expect, along with happy tears and stacks of laughter.

From my perspective, it has been really nice getting my teeth stuck into a few wedding bookings again recently. As a filmmaker and video producer, I have branched out somewhat over the last couple of years, and wedding filmmaking now makes up a much smaller part of what I do. However, I will always love being involved in wedding cinematography, and despite some speculation out there, I have no plans whatsoever to move away from them completely.

Wedding Films are after all what got me started on this mad journey. There’s something incredibly special about being able to provide a couple with lifelong memories that they will cherish forever. It’s truly an honour, and it gives me a feeling and kind of job satisfaction that you don’t really get in other lines of video production work. As well as that, what better working environment could there possibly be, than getting to spend the day with a great bunch of people having an incredible time, in an amazing location, on one of the biggest and most special days of their lives? Say no more. Wedding filmmaking will always hold a very special place in my heart.

To Meg and Luke, a huge congratulations to you both from me, and thank you once again for allowing me the privilege of being part of it all. It’s been an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait to edit your Full Feature Film.

Here’s a short preview film of their day!
